What Causes Dandruff and How to Get Rid of it
When the scalp gets dry or greasy dandruff can occur. This is a harmless condition that produced dead skin cells to flake off the scalp which arewhite in appearance. While dandruff is harmless it can appearon clothing and lead to embarrassment. It can start in early age andabout 40% of the population over age 30 has some form of dandruff. The condition can be quite mild or severe where a lot of skin flakes are produced.
We are constantly producing more skin cells and as the scalp produced mores skin cells the older ones arepushedto the surface and these appear as flakes. When you have dandruff you areproducing skin cells at a faster rate than theycаnbe expelled so you get flakes that come offwhen you brush your hair. The most common treatment for the condition is a medical dandruff shampoo. Major brands such as head and Shoulders are commonly used ti treat dandruff. These shampoos may not work for some people. There are also clinical strength shampoos which may offermore relief for some individuals.

·         Salicylic acid and sulfur
·         Pyrithione Zinc
·         Selenium sulfide
·         Ketoconazole
Thesemedications are under differentbrand names. It’s always best to talk to your doctor about the right shampoo to use as dandruff problems can vary from individual to individual. It’s important to use the shampoos for some time to see if the product controls your dandruff problem. For most people these products tend to work but it’s also good to use a conditioner as the shampoos cаn dry out your hair somewhat. These shampoos also tend to irritate eyes as well so care must be taken to keep the product out of the eye when using it.
Home Remedies
Some people have seen relief from dandruff by using certain home remedies for the condition.
·         Daily Shampoo – One of the easiest ways to control dandruff is to use a daily shampoo. This doesn’t have to be dandruff shampoo. Natural shampoos cаn be less irritating on the scalp.
·         Switch Shampoo – your scalp may develop a tolerance for a dandruff shampoo. You can switch your brand and this may help control the flakes again.
·         Baking Soda – Washing your hair with baking soda may help to control dandruff problems.
·         Lemon Juice – Adding lemon juice to water and massaging this into the hair may help to treat dandruff problems.
·         Salt – Scrub some salt into your hair before you shampoo the hair and you may reduce problems with dandruff.
